This vase 練り込み（一輪生）, crafted by 立井治甫 of 治甫窯, is an elegant example of the nerikomi technique, in which layered and colored clays are combined and shaped directly on the potter’s wheel. The result is a seamless swirl of deep indigo, stone gray, and natural clay tones that spiral around the vase’s softly tapered cylindrical form. The matte surface and gentle gradations of color are entirely inherent to the clay itself, nothing is painted, showcasing the technical mastery required for true nerikomi work.
