Large antique Japanese katana signed Kanemitsu saku 兼 光 作.
Made from Tamahagane steel and razorsharp.
Mounted with an original high-quality Edo koshirae
Handmade for a Lieutenant Colonel and used in WWII.
The original antique koshirae is a magnificent example of Edo period work. The fuchi and kashira are made with gold inlays of the sea god Ryūjin or Ryōjin (龍神), also known as Ōwatatsumi and Shisha. The inlays are handmade with impressive reliefs and in very good condition. The stuba is a fine example of Edo work. The red saya make a beautiful and rare piece very difficult to find in this condition
